when coating chocolate truffles with with cocoa powder, what percent cacao do they have to be?

Posted by admin on March 4th, 2010 and filed under chocolate truffles | No Comments »

Afraid that it might taste too bitter, i bought dark chocolate cocoa powder that’s used for drinking. however, i heard that when making chocolate truffles, i have to use the actual cocoa powder that’s very bitter and rich with no sugar in it. does it really matter what cocoa powder i use?

Which country makes the best chocolate?

Posted by admin on March 4th, 2010 and filed under belgian chocolate | 7 Comments »

Some people say British chocolate is best. In fact some British women prefer their chocolate to their men, but thats another story. Personally I like Swiss and Belgian chocolate the best. Cote d’ or elephants are just great. So come on people, tell me why your country’s chocolate is best. But please dont tell me that Hershey bars qualify as chocolate!

Oh, and if anyone wants to send me some nice tasting chocolate, please feel free!
I’m Australian and I do not think Australia makes the best chocolate. So to the lady who said AUSTRALIA, all I can say is "broaden your horizons"…there is a whole world of GREAT chocolate out there!

I can’t say that I know much about chocolate all over the world, but some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had is Ghiradelli chocolate. The caramel squares… oooh I could swoon just thinking about them. Mmm. And you can get them almost anywhere. I know for sure that Target sells the little bags of them. It’s fantastic.

A glass of fine wine or a glass of chocolate milk?

I’d like chocolate milk.

That’s a tough one but the wine wins it by a nose.

what is the most I can get for these combinations?

Chris has won a shopping spree at a gourmet donut wholesale bakery. The bakery owners
have agreed to allow Chris to have 1 minute to gather as many boxes of donuts as
possible, with two restrictions: all donuts must remain in their original bulk boxes (partial
boxes are not allowed) and no more than ten pounds of donuts are to be chosen. Chris
has created a list of the types of donuts the bakery sells, the weight of each box and the
value per box (see table below). If Chris wants to end up with the most valuable ten
pounds of donuts, which boxes of donuts would he choose by using a greedy method?
Donut Type Package Weight Value of Box
Jelly Filled Donuts 2 lbs $15.00
Maple/Chocolate Bars 5 lb $86.25
Chocolate-Covered Cake Donuts 1 lbs $12.50
Custard Cream Filled Donuts 6 lbs $105.00
Cinnamon Rolls 5 lbs $85.00
Apple Fritters 3 lb $50.00

Let’s reduce the problem.
1. Forget Jelly Filled because pound for pound you are better off with Chocolate-Covered.
2. Forget Cinnamon because Maple/Chocolate is more expensive.

The answer is two five pound packages of Maple/Chocolate Bars resulting in $172.50.
The best you can do with Custard Creme is $167.50.

What are some hard to find candies/lollies/snacks/chocolates in Australia that is available in Canada/US?

Posted by admin on March 4th, 2010 and filed under chocolates | 2 Comments »

I am looking to bring some candies/snacks/chocolates as gifts when I come to Australia. I heard hershey kisses and coffee crisps are hard to find? Is this true?

I live in Australia but I have never been to America. This question is hard to answer unless you have been to both countries. I love this kind of food so if you list them, I can tell you if we have them. You can email me. I have never had the two you mentioned so bring those. I can tell you we do have Oreos. List the rest!!!

is hot chocolate a good gift?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under chocolate gift | 8 Comments »

Im planning on giving my friends hot chocolate this christmas. Will they like it or will they not?

A couple packets of Swiss Miss in a brown paper bag would make a crappy gift, but some gourmet hot cocoa would be great. I suggest the peppermint shaved chocolate from Williams Sonoma. You can definitely taste the difference between powder and real chocolate shavings so, if you want to gift cocoa, try to get something on the higher end.

whats the best way to reheat hot chocolate?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under chocolate gourmet | 5 Comments »

I made gourmet hot chocolate which took me about 20 minutes to make last night. It was made with whole milk, half and half and real chocolate. Whats the best way to reheat it to preserve its taste? Is it ok to microwave it? if so, for how long?

You could microwave it, but I find that using the microwave can be unpredictable.

The safest way would be to re-heat on the stove top at a low heat. It may take a little longer, but it will be worth it in the end.

is Belgian chocolate cheesecake actually from Belgium?

Posted by admin on March 2nd, 2010 and filed under belgian chocolate | 1 Comment »

were does it originate from??

The chocolate used to make the cheesecake probably comes from Belgium, but I doubt your cheesecake was made there. There are a bunch of theories about where cheesecake originated. Google it.
