There is a type of …
There is a type of chemical in cocoa beans, similar to caffeine, that can cause a toxic reaction in dogs, high toxicity could even cause a hypertensive crisis (Extremely high blood pressure). Though… truth is that lower amounts of cocoa solids means lower doses of poison. White chocolate is harmless, it has no cocoa solids. You should be worried if the dog eats a box of cocoa powder, but don’t panic just because he swiped your fun-size Baby Ruth.

Actually, chocolate …
Actually, chocolate will not necessarily kill a dog. Chocolate in large amounts will. I have known more than one dog that ate chocolate from time to time with no ill effects. Aside from the amount consumed, it depends on the size of the dog, and even the type of chocolate. In other words, a single truffle wouldn’t harm a dog that size in any way at all.
