How can I substitute dark chocolate with milk chocolate?

Do i reduce the amount of sugar? Do you have any recipes that require milk chocolate(melted)? When making cake or brownies how do i do it thanks.

Dark chocolate generally is not as sweet as milk chocolate, however find out the cocoa content before adjusting ingredients. If using a Hershey special dark chocolate chip, I do not make any adjustments. I find the end result to be perfect. Unless you have a specific recipe hard to know how to advise you on adjustments. Here is a recipe for double chocolate brownies (my recipe) and I do not specify what type of chocolate chip – individual preference. You an use semi-sweet, milk chocolate or dark chocolate. In the first step you simply stir the chips into a warm liquid base to melt. FYI, other recipes may require that you melt the chocolate with a double boiler.

Double Chocolate Brownies

Dry Ingredients:
3/4 cup unsifted flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt

Combine in small bowl, set aside.

Liquid Base
In small sauce pan combine:
1/3 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp water

Bring to just a boil. Remove from heat. Add
1 cup chocolate chips and 1 tsp vanilla. Stir
until Chocolate Chips melt. Transfer to large bowl.

Add 1 egg and mix with electric mixer until blended, add 1 more egg, mix until blended. Gradually add in the dry ingredients, mix well. Stir in 1 cup of chocolate chips.

Pour batter into a 9" greased square pan. Bake
30 – 35 minutes at 325 degrees.

dark isn’t as sweet i think u should add more milk to make it creamier u really don’t have to change a thing dark just means it will be richer in chocolate just as if u used dark brown sugar rather then light just a richer flavor

Dark chocolate is better for you. Milk chocolate contains a lot of sugar, and artificial fats and emulsifiers, stay away from it. Milk "chocolate" is no chocolate at all.
For cooking you can use either or. Just remember you will have more sweetness, and fat, but less chocolate taste if using milk chocolate

Substitute equal amounts. The difference between dark and milk is not so much that there is more sugar in milk but it is that there is less cocoa liquor in milk.

Dark chocolate is very simple, containing cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and sugar, whereas milk chocolate has a smaller portion of cocoa liquor, cocoa butter, milk and sugar

Less cocoa liquor (not less cocoa butter) causes milk to be less bitter as cocoa is naturally bitter.

If you desire you can reduce your sugar a bit but I would not reduce it much (especially if your goal is just to offset the sugar differential in the chocolats).

One thing I would do is to add some cocoa powder to your recipe to offset the lower chocolate liquor (flavor) in milk.
